I guess I’m on the different side. I love to play sports, but I don’t care to watch them unless I have some sort of a connection with the team. During football season, I follow the colleges from which I received degrees. Professional sports? Nope. I no longer know anyone on the teams. Olympics? Nope. Don’t know any of them. I used to follow baseball, but the strikes soured me.
I have to admit that while I don’t make an effort to watch the winter olympics I don’t avoid them like I do the summer games. They pretty much lost me when they added snowboarding and hot dog skiing. But still both of them are sooo much better than rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized swimming.
The closing ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics 8 years ago featured Neil Young singing “Long May You Run” while the cauldron was extinguished. That was just so beautiful. They should end every Olympiad, winter or summer, with that song.

I don’t consider ice dancing a sport* but I do like to watch it. Not enough to go out of my way for it, though. The biggest excitement at any Olympics is seeing how far they stretch to give every athlete a tragic, heart-warming struggle to overcome in the profiles; “Yes, she was just 25 when her cousin’s dog died , but she persevered and today she skates for Fluffy!”
*As the great former Chicago Tribune sports columnist once wrote (in re The Games, of course), “If you can measure it with a stopwatch, a tape measure, or a scoreboard, it’s not a sport.”
Of course Earnest Hemingway said “The only sports are mountain climbing, motor racing, and bullfighting; the rest are just games.”
Ever since ABC came up with Wide World of Sports TV has ruined the Olympics. They may as well be recognized as professional athletes. At least the medalists. There are still true amateurs in the games but they rarely exceed the pro performers.
It started yesterday. Day before opening ceremony. Almost missed it cause opening was promoted for Friday like crazy and didn’t think about checking Thurs. What up with dat???

Spoken like a true female Olympic enthusiast. There are graceful events she can appreciate without esoteric sports rules and arcane knowledge. Good for her.

Yeah, nine zillion commercials.

I record it overnight to watch only the sports I want (curling, being I play it), and fast-forward past the cloying, self-serving commercials.

I don’t watch any type of sports as not interested. Could care less if they play or who wins.

Prefer the winter Olympics over the summer ones. Avid fan of curling. I record the matches for later viewing.
