It featured Gretchen and Nubbin, both of of whom had been absent from the strip for so long that nobody knew if then-29-year-old Gretchen was single, dating or married, or what she did for a living.(I also did one about then-14-year-old Gus, aka “Little Skeezix,” trying to earn extra money by mowing lawns.)Still amazed nobody from TMS ever came on the board to tell me to stop—especially after I gave Skeezix a previously-unknown 62-year-old French half-brother and introduced a guy who was meant to be a love interest for Gretchen.
