Regardless of what month Easter falls in, it’s a fool’s day, because only fools really believe that anybody actually returned from the dead, let alone the whole zombie apocalypse thing in the Gospel of Matthew.
The people of New Orleans, Louisiana were sleeping off Mardi Gras (they’ve long since sobered up now). The people of my hometown of Savannah, Georgia have since dried out from St. Patrick’s Day.
Actually, Easter is far from solemn. It’s the most joyous of Christian Celebrations. Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, or Good (Holy) Friday are solemn. Easter is THE celebration of the year, even more so than Christmas for unbounded joy and praise
I wonder if anyone else noticed that the glove on Caulfield hand switched from his left hand to his right. And the glove switched from left to right also.
This strip is actually very sad. When everything is special, nothing is special. That is the mantra of the modern day, and it is teaching the children that they cannot stand out in anything because their achievement isn’t any more special than the kid who tried and failed or the kid who didn’t try at all. If you don’t get a reward (even as small as a hug and “well-done”, then why try? You’ll get a trophy anyway.
Caulfield’s final statement is wrong. When nothing is special, then everything is drab and ordinary. Where would we be if George Washington or Abraham Lincoln or Martin Luther King, Jr. weren’t special?

@RICHARD S RUSSELL – Do you feel better about yourself now that you’ve denigrated other’s beliefs? I guess your avatar is a misnomer.

Many years ago, I gave up Catholicism for Lent. Worked so well I never went back.
