It’s a metaphor for useless activity.

So, the Titanic had a useless activity director.

The House Republicans are looking to invent a new office for an honored Tea Party member. This could be it!

Maybe he’s there to put the deck chairs back after the 70 degree angle the Titanic tipped.

Okay… clearly some people missed it.

Notice, it’s the ‘HMS’ Titanic. HMS is a company that the government healthcare providers (Medicare/Medicaid) contract for “cost containment.” They have a tendency to work with auditing contractors like IntergriGuard which is renound for creating monsterous audits on private healthcare providers without any actual oversight to their methods for the sole purpose of trying to put those companies out of business.

Anyway, soapbox aside, I think the reason why this strip uses HMS and the Titanic is related to Obamacare and the fact that the Titanic is ‘too big to sink.’ This while having a multitude of useless government entities created via the healthcare bill and others where people do little to nothing of any value while getting paid a whole lot (of our tax dollars) to do so. The idea is that the Titanic will sink and take all passengers (namely us) along with it.

I’ve not know Free Range to be so political, but it makes more sense than the stuff above… except for the “metaphor for a usless activity.”

    Gravity:

Your explanation reminds me of the old story about new doctors searching for the exotic diseases instead of first ruling out the more obvious: when one hears hoofbeats, thinks horses, not zebras. ;-) In this case, it’s a metaphor for useless activities.

British Navy ships use “HMS” the way we use “USS’, with the HMS used for Her(His) Majesty’s Ship. In this case, that’s not accurate, as the Titanic was a ship of the White Star Line, a private firm, and was an “SS”.

Actually, the Titanic was RMS - it was authorized to carry mail on the trans-Atlantic route, thus Royal Mail Ship.

CMS is part of the Government.

    RMS, not SS. My mistake!
