Tut, tut. tut… those of you who complain that politics ( and political opinion) have no place in the comics have abolutely no clue about the history of the cartoon. Cartoonists have always been political.
Peanuts is as much of a social satire, as is Doonesbury – different artists and different ways of expression.
It seems to me that those complaining the loudest about Trump & Co. in cartoons, found no objection when it was Obama or the Clintons being skewered.
Hiding Mallard Fillmore and Doonesbury on the Editorial Page of the papers was an act of journalistic cowardice.
When something or someone deserves lampooning, then the “funny papers” are, historically, the perfect place.
The editorial cartoon is usually a single panel and a one shot commentary, reflective of the newspaper’s political position on a specific topic, on that given day.
