My mom did this to my brother’s baseball cards… which included some significant rookie cards from the 50s and 60s. She also did it to my sister’s stuffed animal collection. I made sure my stuff was hidden or moved out of the house whenever I was away for more than a few minutes.

I’ve found that women can invest a lot of creative energy embuing this ritual with symbolic meaning.
