Is that a broken window? That’s the second time there’s been glass in Nancyworld windows in one week! Of course, there are NO windows in Big Pink next door.
It’s probably not done to mention other sites here (although the article on the AV Club came up last week), but Comic Strip of the Day (comicstripoftheday.com) has touched on the changing of the guard at Nancy with muted approval.
I note he doesn’t specify who’s work Original Nancy might represent (other than it’s not Jerry Scott) and who might be excluded from his implied definition, and I don’t agree that Olivia Jaimes being a woman is particularly noteworthy past Day One, but given his many years of experience in the newspaper industry he’s always worth reading.
I think those two are starting to look older in age than they have ever been. Looks like they should be just starting middle school years. I actually like that.
I agree with Nancy. It can work against the pacing when a continuity strip is collected into a book. But JLG is right too: It doesn’t generally come up in a gag-a-day strip.
After reading about the hate that Olivia has been receiving after taking over Nancy, I decided to check the strip out for myself. I find Olivia’s take on this strip to be excellent. It is funny and well drawn. I know that a lot of fans of the earlier cartoonists have been vocal about their dislike for this new incarnation of Nancy. I do wonder if there isnt a bit of misogyny going on here as I really enjoy the new Nancy compared to the moribund versions from the past. Anyway, thanks Olivia for bringing me back to Nancy. I will be reading this comic daily from now on.
Finally, no sappy Christian stuff in Nancy! Was a bit overdone and saccharine! Guy may have meant well, but no all follow such beliefs! If you want such watch old Davey and Goliath claymation shorts! At least now will appeal to more(IMO) .
Hello GoComics friends, just a quick housekeeping note, due to the timing of newspaper deadlines and the rapidity with which we on-boarded Olivia, Olivia’s first Sunday will run on May 6th.
OK, what are you all looking for in a Nancy strip? A funny comic? If so, then you should be happier now. The old strips were aggressively unfunny. Painfully so. So far, the new strips have been moderately funny. Perhaps you want nice artwork? Well, the style is different, to be sure, but the old artwork wasn’t exactly… good. Every character was drawn in a cartoon way (not that there’s anything wrong with that) except for Fritzi, who seemed out of place and wasn’t actually drawn all that well at all and her proportions just… off. It should be interesting to see how she’s drawn in the new strip.

Well, Nancy, if you’re sticking to a gag-a-day format, that’s not a problem you’ll have to worry about.

Just a minute. Nancy will have to go back to the first panel to remember what she said.

The only thing more tedious than rehashing the previous day’s strip is talking about comics that rehash the previous day’s strip

Actually, the more I read Ms. Jaimes’ work, the more I like it.

Olivia has definitely added more patches to Sluggo’s clothes than Guy drew.

The drawing on this strip leaves me in the cold. Going forward is not always better. It is kind of like going from an Ice Cream Sundae to a Parsnip!

Looks like sluggo needs a first panel. I guess the pea soup green walls left him zoned out.

It would really be funny if she ran this same strip all next week.

I’ve got it! All the strip needs is a change of name! And that name should be “The Little Zombies.”
