If you don’t know Christopher Pike was the initial captain in the pilot but he died(the actor) before the show was picked up. In an effort to save some money on the budget they turned the pilot into a two parter. Trivia, Jeffery Hunter (Chris Pike) was married to Emily McLaughlin who played nurse Jessie on General Hospital.
