As I’ve posted before, I didn’t so much GROW my beard as I stopped fighting it.
I started shaving when I was 14 (once a week) and had to shave twice a day by the time I was in boot camp. I could not wait until I could stop shaving.
The one good thing about a fast growing beard occurred when I was home on leave and went on a date. The young woman I was dating lived at home and thought that she should keep her date waiting a bit when he got there. I shaved about half an hour before I left the house, it took me about half an hour to get to her house, and she kept me waiting for about half an hour. That was long enough for my whiskers to start getting scratchy. She came down the steps, kissed me on the cheek and pulled back and asked, “Didn’t you shave?” I told her, Sure, just before I left the house." Her mother told her, “See what happens when you keep them waiting?”
