Unfortunately, I don’t know the history of their relationship, nisedc, other than what I saw last week, so it’s hard to say. I’m no prude, but no matter what she had done, I would try to be more grownup than he was. Any 8-year-old could’ve said what he said. I think her reaction to that would be, “What a childish jerk! I’m glad to be rid of him.” I would want her to hang up thinking maybe her behavior cost her something worthwhile.
The decision to break it off is what made him a man, not the way he chose to do it.
Not that any of us would want to be guilty of over-analyzing a comic strip. ;-)

Ray C, she used to date Lucas before Mona got to him (literally). Then, when things looked as though they could work out between Mona and Lucas, Tiffany started dating him again and they moved in together. During that time, she was constantly belittling him, and finally left him for a guy wearing a rolex she’d known for about two minutes.
So yeah, I’d say he was subtle enough.
