Earth shoes? You’re better off barefoot.

The lady in “Pajama Diaries” frequently has her past selves visiting her.

The first Doonesbury collection I read was “Call Me When You Find America”.

I confess to trying the Earth Shoes. They felt okay, but looked idiotic, so I turned them over to a local thrift shop.

I had two pairs, one pumpkin, the other brown. They lasted for years and served me well. I also had Earth sandals that lasted 20+ years, though I must admit that since I moved to MN from FL not long after I bought them, they saw limited use.

So when I read this old Doonesbury comic strip I’m experiencing nostalgia inside nostalgia inside nostalgia.

“Those high heels are really stupid, you know.”

“I’d like another opinion on that.”

    “OK, they’re ugly, too.”

This is either advice time or a harbinger of death.

I had a yellow dress just like that one in 1970! I wasn’t barefoot though.

Remember, Joanie, where you came from and exactly who you were when you first walked into this strip.

Joanie should get more respect around here. She pulled herself up by her bootstraps and graduated law school. Sometimes marriage and family situations don’t work out for everyone.

I got the barefoot thing back during hippy days, but what’s with being barefoot everywhere NOW? It’s like we have a cultural foot fetish. Is it supposed to be natural? It’s stupid! Feet are at risk just by virtue of their “job”. Grow up, people; only babies who are carried everywhere and have their every step watched can afford to go barefoot everywhere.

I only work to get the neat, cool toys I couldn’t afford when I was young. That “me” would be happy I think.
