Hi Yo, Sterling…WAIT A MINUTE! Sir Dudley, your signal flags just turned red. Better stop, or the Knight Patrol will pull you over and give you a ticket!
Jim Toomey did a good quote about that. “People will not question that sharks have furniture and dinner off of plates. But will question how the candles work under water.”
Rules! Rules and order. We have to have them even in a comic strip world. Fortunately for Justin, writers can make up rules (and change them) as they go along.
Personally I share Sterling’s concern about the bees.
And Jim Toomey’s observation (quoted by Time Traveler) is dead on target.
Cartoon characters exist in C-space where special laws of physics apply – animals talk, candles can burn underwater, a gray hare can produce a stick of dynamite (conveniently prelit) from behind his back to hand to his pursuer, and so on.
The realm of Mythtickle is even more special. Not only is it C-space, but it is also a supernatural realm populated by dieties and mythical beings. Wow.
Hello, Dali. This mythical supergeek can hack into the actual story, but hasn’t been following the strip long enough to know that it’s already been explained & the first commenter responds to comixNrd976’s comment. Don’t bother chiming in today Justin, it’s surreal enough.
But don’t mess with bees. They’re one of the few civilized races in the animal kingdom, who gain their sustenance from killing neither animal nor vegetable, merely by assisting in the mating rituals of our greener brothers.
When this strip first ran (not long ago) it wasn’t at all surreal – it was real. It followed several days of speculation here in the comments on how Dudley could hold his lance. If it wasn’t “comixNrd976” making the actual comments it was a very similar name.

Let’s not forget the prime, (hopefully) never-to-be-broken rule, as formulated by Roger Rabbit:
Eddie Valiant: “You mean you could’ve taken your hands out of those handcuffs the entire time???!!!!”
Rodger Rabbit: “No, Eddie, I couldn’t…I could only do it when it was funny!”
Yes, Roger Rabbit cited the First Law of Cartoon Physics. (The Second Law is, “When in doubt, see the First Law.”)
Corollary: A funny action can only occur when something even funnier couldn’t occur instead. For example, BroomHilda’s ZAP! only works when the alternative isn’t as funny.

a tin can on a talking horse aiming at a beehive over a frozen lake, and you’re worried about hands?
There’s something needed to enjoy all comix
suspension of disbelief

OK, that’s funny. The scary thing is that when I looked at the first panel, I thought the same thing.

A horse charging across ice toward a bee hive. Sounds like Saturday night at the mntim house.
