I remember an old Mad Magazine piece about sandlot baseball. A small kid (the last one picked) came up to bat. Someone in the field yelled “Move in. Easy Out!” and someone replied “Why bother? He won’t hit it.” A couple of pitches later he did hit and that same voice accused him of cheating because he never hit the ball!
There once was a demonstration softball team called The King and Three Aces.: pitcher, catcher, and two fielders. They needed four because sometimes they loaded the bases and someone had to hit them home.

I always hated it when the fielders did that.

Modern baseball is either home runs or strikeouts. I miss the old Earl Weaver strategy of a couple of base hits and then a 3-run homer.
