Tomorrow is the first Mother’s Day since my mother’s passing. All of you whose mothers are still with you, give your mothers the best and longest hugs that they can tolerate.
My son invented Brother’s Day when he was little, the day before his birthday. I think he imagined he would get an extra present, or we would all just be extra nice to him. He didn’t give up. He mentioned Brother’s Day every year for half a dozen years. I miss his silliness.
Can’t believe I’m the first to post this but those of you from my generation will nod your heads in agreement. When I made a similar comment to my Mother once, she said (ready for this?) "Everyday is “kid’s Day!”
It’s been my argument for some time that every person’s birthday is a very appropriate day to celebrate one’s mother. You just showed up on your birthday – she gave birth to you. Who do you think deserves a nod on that day?
In some cultures, people give a present to family and friends on that person’s birthday, then receive presents during the course of the year from everyone else. I’ve always wondered what that would be like; no, I don’t remember which cultures practice that, but it’s a small number.
