Cyrus looks startled that he is going to be thrown into a brawl with big tough Dick Tracy.Cyrus looks startles that he is going to be thrown into a brawl with big tough Dick Tracy. Great expression. Great expression.
For the record, Britt’s left takes a bigger toll than Tracy’s. Britt put his weight behind the punch and struck in the upper solarplexus (i believe) while Tracy slugged him in the jaw. Britt’s strike is designed to take the breath away from his opponent while Tracy’s is more to stun and set up for another shot.
Meanwhile, Kato chops Sam and the round so far is in favor of Britt and Kato
So Hornet gives up Topper to Tracy. But didn’t Tracy already have him? Hornet should have minded his own business. Diet Smith should have put infrared lenses in those gas masks so the boys could see heat signatures through the fog.
This is not the first time that The Green Hornet has whipped up on a cop. While I’m sure that Britt Reid regrets it when doing so becomes necessary, it does solidify his reputation as a master criminal. Besides, Tracy hit him first.
This is one of the main problems with crossovers (there are plenty of others) the writers must try to keep all of the players in character. Here we have Dick Tracy, who believes Green Hornet is a crook, holding a gun while letting GH punch him, because they both are from different fictional “universes” where the norms are different.
It’s the economy of carefully choreographed entertainment combat! Round 1 (a.k.a. panel 1), Kato (black outfit and glove has to be his) bitch-slaps Sam (someone had to say it); round 2, the Green Hornet lands a solid left to Tracy’s body (that’ll slow down the old detective); and then, round 3, GH puts Topper into play as his substitute, as he and presumably Kato prepare to make good their escape. And so Cyrus is left to the tender mercies of a ruffled tough, jut-jawed, squint-eyed, no nonsense detective who has had enough, thank you and needs to bring at least one bad actor down today!

Good morning™, trotters!
The brawl continues, even if Sam can’t see who he’s brawling with. He’d better watch out for anyone sneaking up on him.

Somebody actually landed a punch on Tracy? That’s rare.

Those of you who were discussing the silliness of the old Batman TV show will probably enjoy today’s “Free Range” cartoon.
