I can relate to that. I am a contract employee at a company with a skyscraper HQ. I thus only have access to several floors. That is fine. But, at the start of each fiscal half, my pass no longer works on at least one floor. I then inform HR and soon regain access.
The converse of this is that employees can, and do, leave at anytime without notice. I have done it on more than one occasion. By the way, I usually leave because of I view many of my co-workers as being lazy, or incompetent
