Jaimes over Bushmiller again today. For the record, I’m not saying the OJ is fit to hold Ernie Bushmiller’s ink pen, but we tend to lionize the past. There were, for example, hundreds of meh Tonight Show episodes with Johnny Carson as host. Someone puts together a “best of” special and it becomes easy forget how hard it is to bring the funny every day.
I personally do not enjoy the “new Nancy” comic strip. Ernie’s depiction was exponentially more enjoyable. Sorry it is no longer on my “must read” list.
I am a Guy fan and am not fond of OJ’s humor, or lack thereof. (Why do I torture myself like this?) But I am mature enough to admit that this was really funny. (Maybe that’s why. One never knows)
OK, conspiracy theory fodder: Olivia Walch has a Ph.D. in applied mathematics (background at oliviawalch.com). Another shred of evidence that Olivia Jaimes = Olivia Walch? Count me in!

Yeah, that’s a little challenging for an eight year old. Nancy has the right approach.

Nancy is a bit young to be expected to solve those equations.

ooo…Notice how OJ snuck both 3 and 16-4 (usually seen on the whiteboard) onto the problem statement!

“Neither of us could find a partner” is a great punchline.

Today’s comic is just Olivia’s way of getting you math nerds to do her kid’s homework ;)

Nancy, and Sluggo’s long-lost sister.

I never thought the old “Nancy” was funny. Even in the 1960s it seemed tired. I love the updated strip.

Seems a bit circular.

So for drawing adults we’ve gone from “hot” Fritzi to the wicked witch of the west teaching kids.
