The young woman playing the Bride of Frankenstein only knows J. Straightedge Trustworthy from Vera Alldid’s comic strip (and possibly the animated version that Scott was working on). She thinks Tracy is cosplaying a comic strip character.
why would Sam need to warn Tracy, though….they were already tipped off, and Dick sure as heck knows Sawtooth has been contracted to kill him from before…
what has me wondering is…..yeah, his mouth is huge and teeth sharp, but way earlier he told Tracy they could never get evidence to convict him….uhhhh…..with his saliva, blood, teeth marks and DNA all over his victims, uhhhhh…..good thing this is a comic, lol.Guess we won’t have long for the big confrontation now….hope Mike doesn’t kill him off, as Abner and Sawtooth are two genuinely creepy bad guys…..Just want to say, Mike and Joe, you’ve been doing this far less timewise than Chester Gould did….so the number of unique, totally cool new bad guy characters you have created is pretty darn awesome – THUMBS UP!!!
The two uniform cops (the male, moreso) in the first panel and the female paramedic in the second seem to be based on People In The Real World — they’re just enough off-style from the rest of the background characters. Wonder who they are?
One clear difference between the way Gould wrote stories and now is Tracy’s “laid back” attitude toward crooks who escape. Now it’s “Oh, well. Well probably see him (or her) again someday.” In the old days, when Tracy escaped a death trap, but the crook was still out there, Tracy was relentless in pursuit. He would find clues at the scene of the death trap, or use other police techniques to figure out where the crook was hiding. I guess Mike has said he doesn’t like chase sequences, but they were (and still should be) a big part of Dick Tracy.
Had Tracy and crew gone after Sawtooth with more energy and resources after the “tree in the winter woods” episode, this murder might have been prevented.
Having said that, now that we have a murder and a crime scene, I hope this story will proceed along traditional Dick Tracy lines.
I’m still not quite certain why Bribery wanted to off Glitch. I’m also not certain why Bribery hired Sawtooth when he had obviously failed to kill Tracy. Without Glitch, how will Bribery regain control over the Matty Squared program?
Tracy showed up at the RHPS very promptly; maybe Sam is off-stage being treated by another paramedic. Meanwhile, the Medical Examiner will need to verify what the lead paramedic on scene has observed (verifying my expectation and probably yours, too, that Sawtooth ripped out his victim’s throat like an Old-School werewolf was supposed to do). Tracy quickly puts 2+2+2 together (Ishida’s tip; Sam’s call; his own recognition of the signature assault on the late Ygor Glitch_) to come to the conclusion he expresses in panel 2.
BTW, his asking the uniforms to clear the scene in panel 1 perhaps includes just a bit of annoyance at being mistaken by a bystander for a cartoon character [the heavy irony is weighing me down]….

Good morning™, “chalk outline” cleanup crew members !
Better being mistook for a cartoon cop than a real one doing a postmortem murder investigation.

It is going to be tough to get the witness testimony, even in a room full of people. Most of them are going to think that this was just an act.

Must be quite cold in that theater. Those look like winter coats the cops are wearing!

That scream was no dream. Things are just as they seem. Glitch dead on the floor. He’s seen better days. Take him away. Look to see Ygor no more.

Is that Bart Simpson in the background of panel one?

Just for fun: Over at Mark Trail today, it almost looks like Mr. Bribery has made a cameo appearance in panel 3!

How does Tracy know the identity of Ygor Glitch? Have they crossed paths before? I can’t remember.
