But it has never been done in the past this way. Crossing the border illegally is a misdemeanor. As some parents who crossed the border and served their short misdemeanor sentences still have not had their children returned to them.
More important, most of the parents who had their screaming infants ripped from their arms were not illegal. They were refugees applying for asylum. They did not sneak across the border. They presented themselves at checkpoints and requested asylum. Refugees seeking asylum have never before been separated from their children.

To this administration the children are merely props to be used when necessary. Necessary, as in ’it is necessary to take the attention off of the Russian or Stormy investigations.
And the unspoken truth is that it is fear of losing their unearned (race-based) social status in a future meritocracy that causes the inhumane treatment of immigrants. The unemployed who refuse to learn new skills — (e.g.) coal miners — fear a future where they cannot prosper based on race alone. There is nothing that makes the isolated nations, — (.e.g.) Cuba, North Korea — places that the rest of the world admires or considers to be leaders. It is fear of a future where respect must be earned, that is turning the US into an oppressor government.

Tearing children away from their parents is so evil, it’s the inciting incident in almost every movie we’ve ever cared about.
