The whole world knows what he thinks about Mexican immigrants, global warming, his fellow politicians, the crowd sizes of his inauguration crowd and Canada. There is a gap between the qualities we believe we want in our leaders and the actual qualities of the men and women we put in leadership roles. We say we want people who don’t self-aggrandize, then we elect overbearing people with confidence and emotional responses who present themselves as “winners.”
Trump treats his kids and his staff like crap, the best kind of person to run our country would care for everyone, not just their family, team members and supporters. They would cast aside hateful remarks, evince a passion for the truth and resist the impulse to drone on and on about how terrific, smart and successful he or she is. Trump is not up to this challenge. He can not look beyond the mirror or the adoring crowd at his feet and cast his gaze upon the vast sea of people who come here from all over the world but are united by a single definition: American.
