It took me a while, but I finally found a definition that fit the theme. A north-american dictionary didn’t work, neither did the Urban dic. Cambridge however did the trick.

Good grief! School still in session on June 14th? That’s terrible.

I think it is nice that the children have an adult they can go to, but there is something vaguely creepy about a man with few adult friends.

It is time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget: that whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots, we all enjoy the same glorious freedoms, and we all salute the same great American Flag.

Standing as I do, with my hand upon this staff, and under the folds of the American flag, I ask you to stand by me so long as I stand by it. Abraham Lincoln

I see Americans of every party, every background, every faith who believe that we are stronger together: black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American; young, old; gay, straight; men, women, folks with disabilities, all pledging allegiance under the same proud flag to this big, bold country that we love. That’s what I see. That’s the America I know!

I believe our flag is more than just cloth and ink. It is a universally recognized symbol that stands for liberty, and freedom. It is the history of our nation, and it’s marked by the blood of those who died defending it. John Thune

Our flag honors those who have fought to protect it, and is a reminder of the sacrifice of our nation’s founders and heroes. As the ultimate icon of America’s storied history, the Stars and Stripes represents the very best of this nation. Joe Barton

The American flag, Old Glory, standing tall and flying free over American soil for 228 years is the symbol of our beloved country. It is recognized from near and afar, and many lives have been lost defending it.

America has been the country of my fond election from the age of thirteen, when I first saw it. I had the honour to hoist with my own hands the flag of freedom, the first time it was displayed, on the Delaware; and I have attended it with veneration ever since on the ocean. John Paul Jones

Curious how our Grand Union flag was identicle to a corporate flag the British were using. It has bothered me for some time. Glad they had made it more different from it with the stars on a blue canton.

The design that was settle upon is known as the Grand Union flag; still … it is extremely similar to the flag of the British East India Company (BEIC).
