Many cultures have monsters that steal children. From fairies replacing children with fake ones called “changelings” to Lilith stealing babies to feed on. And then we have real human ones who do it in broad day light.
The Coco (or Cuco, Coca, Cuca, Cucuy, Cucuí) is a mythical ghost-monster, equivalent to the bogeyman, found in many Hispanic and Lusophone countries. He can also be considered a Hispanic version of a bugbear, as it is a commonly used figure of speech representing an irrational or exaggerated fear.
Government didn’t lose the kids. They were put with relatives and told to report at such and such a time. Needless to say many do not report for fear of deportation. Only our crazy social media would twist it into “The government lost children!”.
Cucuy is also called coco, and is sometimes represented as a carved pumpkin head. Portuguese sailors with Vasco da Gama gave the name to coconuts, and boy howdy do we have cucuy-nuts in government now.
Many of these “children” have five-o’clock shadows. It’s good that they are safely ensconced in air-conditioned buildings with 3 meals a day; otherwise they’d be MS-13 fodder.
If I were not living on a small Social Security income,I would go down there to help bathe and change the diapers of the Asylum seeker’s children. Or if I had a home to share, I would share it with a couple of Asylum Seekers.

Well maybe if someone would round up those kids and put them in cages, they wouldn’t get lost!! Only loser kids get lost crossing a border!
