I have an “accidental” beard. I had elbow surgery and lost the use of my right arm for a month. I choose not to learn how to shave left-handed. My wife likes the beard so it became a permanent fixture. Personally, I can go either way. Both clean-shaven and bearded have advantages and disadvantages.
I, personally, like face-fur. Unfortunately, my husband, although dark-haired, can’t grow any. He tried to grow a mustache for me once…it came in clear. Not white, not grey, not even blonde, but resembling the stuff used to make whiskers for stuffed kitties.
I grew it out a few times over the years during the holiday break (Megacorp gave us the week between Christmas and New Year off) but it’s just too patchy on the left side. Now that I’m no longer a productive member of society and every day is vacation, I go with shaving twice a week.
I tried to grow a beard towards the end of my first year in college. When I got back home I stopped in to visit a few teachers in my high school. I told One I was trying to grow a beard but it wasn’t coming in well, and he told me not to be discouraged, I’d only been at it a few days. It was actually more like three weeks. I shaved it off.

I try not to shave in order to make me look older, but there are occasions I have to shave.

A couple Movembers ago, I grew a beard for the first time since 2000. It itched so much I shaved it off before the 15th.
