“Yankee Doodle Dandy” is a great musical (with James Cagney showing he could sing and dance) I think it’s the ideal movie for the 4th of July (along with 1776 which is good but not as much fun). It’s vaguely the bio of George M. Cohen who wrote many of the great WWI era songs such as Over There.
With the overview, at first I only saw the “B” and was thinking it was a billion miles away. Which might also be funny, but wouldn’t really have been in character for Peanuts. (By the way, I’d march a billion miles to get away from this overview!)

After a few pints of root beer, one block may seem like a long way to go.
Keep on singing Snoopy. The world needs more cheerful and uplifting notes to bash away all of today’s discordant noise.

♫ Over hill, over dale ♪
As we hit the dusty trail,
And those caissons go rolling along.
In and out, hear them shout,
Counter march and right about,
And those caissons go rolling along.♫
Refrain:

In the field artillery,
Shout out your numbers loud and strong,
For where e’er you go,

Up to mighty London
Came an Irishman one day.As the streets are paved with gold
Sure, everyone was gay,Singing songs of Piccadilly,Strand and Leicester Square,Till Paddy got excited,
Then he shouted to them there:
Chorus
It’s a long way to Tipperary,It’s a long way to go.It’s a long way to Tipperary,
To the sweetest girl I know!
Goodbye, Piccadilly,Farewell, Leicester Square!
It’s a long long way to Tipperary,But my heart’s right there.
Paddy wrote a letter
To his Irish Molly-O,Saying, “Should you not receive it,
Write and let me know!”
“If I make mistakes in spelling,
Molly, dear,” said he,“Remember, it’s the pen that’s bad,
Don’t lay the blame on me!”
Chorus
Molly wrote a neat reply
To Irish Paddy-O,Saying “Mike Maloney
Wants to marry me, and so
Leave the Strand and Piccadilly
Or you’ll be to blame,
For love has fairly drove me silly:
Hoping you’re the same!”
Chorus
An alternative bawdy concluding chorus:
That’s the wrong way to tickle Mary,
That’s the wrong way to kiss.
Don’t you know that over here, lad
They like it best like this.
Hoo-ray pour les français,
Farewell Angleterre.
We didn’t know how to tickle Mary,
But we learnt how over there.

When I’m near Tipperary (usually each summer), I can’t resist singing “It’s not very far to Tipperary, It’s not very far at all . . . .”
