My Mom remembers the secret decoder ring they used to sell on the Little Orphan Annie radio show. They would give an encoded message in each daily episode. Mom said that once she got the ring, the messages themselves were something of a letdown. Instead of letting you in on a state secret or telling you where to find buried treasure, they’d say something like “Sandy says ‘Arf’.”

If Annie had stuck around until 1965, she could have had Annie Fanny by the Kingsmen as a theme song. Better choice.
