One of the stranger things banned from the grocery store shelves, here in Ecuador is baking soda – I am not sure about baking powder, but I have never seen it in the supermarket.
No doubt it has to do with baking soda being used to cut drugs, but I use it for everything from an upset tummy, toothpaste, air freshener in the fridge, etc.etc. A friend who visited from the States, last year, brought me two large boxes of Arm & Hammer ( hint, hint ).

My first and only attempt to make pie dough. The kitchen looked like a flour tornado hit it! I buy it now.
