At $15 an hour, teenagers or anyone else would get hired if they were all that was available. The reason teenagers don’t get hired is that older people need the work and can show a resume of having held responsible positions until they were laid off because their job went to India. Personally, I would be fine with paying an extra dollar for a whopper meal if it meant that the person serving it to me was able to live a middle class life on the job they were doing for me. In fact, when I go thorough a drive through, I insist that they keep an extra dollar, telling them that’s my contribution to the $15 an hour they should be getting.
New York and Seattle have both experienced…….issues with people making $15 for minimum wage. Like loss of businesses, increased costs, loss of jobs.
And what do you do when people that are now making $15 ask to be paid more than a newly hired whopper flopper? Within a few years the same issue has occurred and you now have inflation with a sudden increase in the cost of goods.
It’s the same as when states (CA, NY, NJ, MD, CT) pass a “millionaire’s tax” and suddenly (to no ones’ surprise) the state makes FAR less than what they expected. The expected “income” must then be made up from others because the money was already spent.
At least in MA this week the Supreme Judicial Court knocked out the ballot question.

Don’t expect $15.00 an hour if you only provide $5.00 an hour in value to the company.

When, I get served like that, I don’t complain, but I never come back. I learned, years ago, that not doing it right, means they just cannot.

At $15/hr, teenagers don’t get hired, don’t get experience for better job.
