Say it with flowers. Though I’m not sure if thistles really get it across.

Wow, that “flower” is as big as the " big stick of the day."

Let’s hope it isn’t Giant Hog Weed.

Or a very expensive flower that mother has been trying to grow for years.

Dead plants are the best way to say, “I love you.”

I was kind of like Alice as a child…a bit. I was always polite to adults, gifts of flowers (OK, weeds) and pretty shells at odd times, told my parents, aunts, uncle, grands, etc. that I loved them and they were wonderful, for no apparent reason, rarely talked back – they all thought I was the “good” kid. I could probably have gotten away with literal murder, and they would likely have blamed my brother or some cousin.

People STILL think I’m nice. Thank you, grandmama, for teaching me good manners and how (and why) to use them! I shudder to think of a kid like Alice learning that lesson, though.

Another favorite. The huge Heart of Richard Thompson is clear in the sweet poignant parade of Culde Sac.

Giant sunflower plus stalk (possibly with bugs): how could Madeline possibly not appreciate this loving gift, plus the huge hole in the yard?

Extra added bonus: Alice’s foresight has mightily impressed young Dill, her future husband….
