Maybe they should read the invitation to see where it’s really happening

It may seem that the strip is finally retiring. And here I thought Skeezix would carry on the torch and all. Perhaps so or not. But the background picture in the first panel could be Jim S. thinking of how to end the story. Wow! The background picture in the third panel has an angel, which spells the end of it all, hopefully in a good way! But what about the other characters?! Don’t know. Hoping for the best – and maybe a continuance, but that doesn’t seem likely. Last thought: Could the angel be representing Phyllis?

If both Walt and Skeezix never return from waiting for Godot, then certainly it will be the end of the strip. I don’t think they can launch GA: The Next Generation with Corky as the patriarch, and surely no one would put up for very long with reading a strip in which Slim is the wise old grandfather while the story centers around Rover, Hoogie, and Boog. So maybe it is in fact time to pull the plug on GA, and this story arc seems like as good a way as any of doing it. Walt and Skeezix are inducted into the Old Comics Hall of Fame, and the curtain drops.

And that’s how Walt and his son were written out of ‘Gasoline Alley’.

I would think if this were an ending, the 100th Anniversary banner would have appeared more frequently in this story.

Mixed emotions. I know Walt’s passing is inevitable – and he’s had a long, wonderful life – but I’m not ready.

And all the people they hope to see aren’t there because their comics are still running.
