And so Wally will live a cold little life because he is afraid to take a risk.

I made a conscious decision 50 years ago that I would be the one actually doing the things the rest saw on TV and wished they could do. Never regretted a moment of it, even the terrible moments.

Wally has a point. Years ago, I considered getting a motorcycle. I was single, and they seemed to be an economical form of travel. However, I recently had a few friends get in bike accidents. One was due to his losing control of his bike and tangling in a barbed wire fence. The other was because a woman turned in front of his bike, forcing him to lay down his bike and ending up under her car.Sadly, a lot of bike accidents happen due to the fact that the car driver didn’t see the biker.Being more than a little accident prone, figured that motorcycles were too dangerous for me. Bikes have no walls to act as armor. Later I talked to one of the few bikers who quit riding bikes. Traffic was a consideration, but the main reason was heat. Motorcycles turn out a lot of heat from their engines located between you legs. Add the hot humid weather that is part of the Gulf South for more than half of the year while being stopped and slowed down in urban traffic, riding a bike has become an uncomfortable activity.

I owned a bike once. Just long enough to figure out how scary being in traffic on a bike is.

Owned a smaller motorcycle back in the early 80s. CT 110 by Honda. Made for commuting and trails. Never had an accident. Not even a close call. Sold it before it had even 800 miles on it.

When I was younger, I thought it took a lot of muscle to wrestle a motorcycle around. I didn’t have it then. I’ve got it now, but I still don’t want to get on one.

Owned a 90cc bike and when Sgt noticed me ride to work, he got me on Motors. Big transition up to big DuoGlide. BUT never mentioned it was all year. Not trained to ride with sidecar in deep snow. Was good at driving walking speed for parades. And you get to wear jodhpurs and take stiffener out of soft hat. And riding in the pouring rain, that’s what made me buy Bronco the first year they came out, really didn’t want a personal bike that much. I liked being warm in the winter and not getting stuck. 10-4?

On it’s first publishment years ago, I wondered why a Jewish CPA would want to ride a bike, but as the plot went on, Jan included people of all races and hair-colors to spice up the story.. Me? I rode accident-free for 50 years, declared myself lucky and sold my collection before I found myself under a left-turner, AKA “Blind Leftie.”
