I had a coworker who was promoted to Department Chair, even though he was adamant that he didn’t want it. He wasn’t an easy person to get along with and was a classic “Peter Pan.” He also had issues with women. He was an awful Chair, and was part of why I quit.
I would be a terrible manager – I hate conflict and working with people inevitably brings conflict. My job is not a team job (other than in the larger agency sense) and my interactions with people is usually short and infrequent. I love that. It makes me appear to get along with everyone. Have been fooling them for over 24 years now.
