The “soaps” are alive here in South and Central America. They’re called telenovelas and are extremely popular with women and men. Unlike the U.S. soap operas that continue for years, the telenovelas do follow the form of a novel and have a beginning, a center, and an end and usually run for only one season. They air on both daytime television and as prime time nightly fare.
Some, like Ecuador produced “Tres Familias”, are actually comedy/dramas.
My wife has her favorite " must watch " teles. Me, I can take them. or preferably, leave them – which is why we have 2 televisions.
The problem with soap operas is that with all of the marrying, divorcing, adultery, sudden aging of children so they can start doing all those things, and changes in writers, a character is apt to find out all of a sudden that he’s his own second cousin, twice removed!

When you take that shower. Make sure that there is enough lye in the soap to remove all those falsehoods told in those TV shows.

actually they are called soap operas because they were sponsored by P&G, and yes Waynes, they are still made.
