Did I leave the church, or did the church leave me?

To paraphrase an ancient TV cigarette commercial, “I’d rather switch than fight.” I didn’t give up on religion, I just changed the brand I was smoking.

One of my favorite sayings is, “How does a fish know it is in water? The answer: It doesn’t…. until you pull it out.” We are the fish, our culture is the water. It permeates what we see, hear, feel, taste, and experience. And only by being pulled out of the water do we truly see the light. The faith of the Roman Catholic Church has endured through very serious challenges for over 2000 years… It is in that enduring truth that we find the real truth of our being and existence. Adapting to the trends of culture has the significant risk of losing the truth and embracing the deception of our age. Spiritual war is real — and God, in His wisdom, has chosen us to live in this age and chose wisely.

Actually, I always thought the strength of the church was that is did BOTH. You need the quiet of contemplation in order to properly go out into the active world.
