I don’t see the problem. Most of the food served in my school cafeterias were pretty decent. At least at the schools I attended after moving to Buffalo. When I was going to school in Indiana though, our lunches were delivered from a nearby high school in styrofoam containers. Those weren’t all that great, but mainly because they weren’t very hot by the time they were served to us. They were OK, but still. I think the thing that the kids hated most was the Doughboy Burger. Ironically, I didn’t think that was so bad!
Went to school in the ’40s and we got our whole wheat bread with white oleo. Right, before they colored it or gave little packets with the yellow coloring to mix in when your parents bought any.

how horrible (did he have room and board in a class room and bathed in the gym’s locker/shower room?)

Actually, when I was in high school they had a chicken-fried steak that was great. Wish I could get it now. (They cooked their own stuff.)

“Reality is the anchovy on the pizza of life.” I usually like the aphorisms here, but I can’t figure this one out.
