The point of this strip is Andy’s drunkenness and laziness. The name of the comic is a play on the word, handicap. In the north of England many people drop their Hs hence ‘andicap and so to Andy Capp. Andy is Flo’s handicap. A fairly typical example of the working class of England at that time. The men lived off the dole and the wife worked as a char lady. :)
The people at the gaol could play some “heavy-metal rock music” all night and morning till they release Andy. Or maybe some good old time southern-blues. They might resonate better with a hangover.
Surprised the police still lock up drunks, except to make sure they don’t drive, it’s just too easy for some drunk that fell down to scream police brutality.

Andy certainly never learns to watch his alcohol intake nor to watch out for the canal.

The over use of the alcohol aspect of Andy gets tiring. Somebody feed this man some good witty repartee !

What the heck did Andy do to make the cell so wet? Shake himself dry like a dog? A massive fluffy dog at that.

Went to a classic car show in Lynden yesterday. My Aunt and Uncle had a car ( a ’49 Chevy) there. (My Uncle restores old cars as a hobby.)
