I’m still trying to figure out whether Mark is the smartest person in the strip, the most stupid, or both. On the one hand, he can give that great speech, and on the other, he’s knowingly getting into this relationship.
The speech doesn’t say anything about Mom giving anything. Mark’s talk was right on, however, because he first acknowledged what she was feeling and second explained where Mom was coming from and third asked for her help (or gift) in the situation. Beats screaming.

It’s been three years since I last checked on this strip and I wasn’t expecting to see reruns. What happened to the author? Great speech by the way.
