When was the last time any of you were in a public school? You know, those are YOUR schools. If you don’t like them, get involved. Do something about it. Volunteer. Serve on the Site Based committee. PTA? How about running for school board?
We work pretty damn hard to keep our kids safe, those shootings you hear about? We’d take a bullet for the kids. Other people’s kids.
The ones with gaps? The ones below grade level? Take a walk through these childrens homes and then came back and talk to me about they they’re having trouble. But rest assured, I’ll be there after school, every day, for any kid who wants to stick around and keep learning. And I won’t be alone.
Home schooling deprives the child of the social and peer interactions necessary in forming a well rounded individual. These can be compensated for by placing the child in outside activities – sports, scouting, dance etc.
I was a product of parochial schools, my son and daughter went to public schools, and I paid for my grandson to go to a private Christian school until he went into junior high school.
I’ve had friends who home-schooled their kids because they lived so far away for the nearest public primary and middle schools that the commute – especially in winter – was prohibitive. Another couple that I knew, had private tutors for their two children because the local schools did not have programs for gifted students.
Great timing, Shoe… how many days since authorities removed a kid from “home-schooling” because his parents had him living in the barn, eating grass, starved down to skin and bones and showing signs of regular beatings?
Obviously this is a rare event in home schooling… just as the things people like to point to in public schools are also rare. But “kids are learning things” doesn’t generate those clicks or views…

@Durak seems to front for the NEA. Far as I can tell, the only thing they’re worried about are the pension funds.

I see a Rodney Dangerfield joke somewhere. The neighborhood was so tough that the home schooled kids had their lunch money stolen by their moms.

Home schooling may be great unless your parent(s) are psychotic…

On the down side, it’s all homework and you can’t take a sick day on the day of the test.

I see you haven’t gotten to the punctuation lesson yet; about sentences ending with a period.
