Voice of experience, here, kid. It’s almost a certainty, and you’ll regret it if you don’t prepare for the eventuality. I’ll bet you’re not saving for retirement, either?

How old are these characters supposed to be? I had assumed 40ish….which, in that case, 50 is not very far off and would be easy to imagine.

Just 16 months away. Having to work harder at being healthy than I ever thought I would. And it is harder to do things I never gave a second thought to just 10 years ago. Standing, getting up off the floor. The daughter keeps saying yoga. She’s probably right.

I got that scolding from my doctor also. I took it a bit more seriously.

Those who plan to deny their existence at 50 my cease to exist before 50.

In the words of Waylon Jennings, “If I knowed I was gonna live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself.”

Life comes at you fast, kid. Take the weight off now while you still have a functioning metabolism that’ll let you.

My motto when I was young: Live hard, die young, and have a good looking corpse. As I approach 71, it’s too late for me to die young or to have a good looking corpse. As for living hard, simply climbing a few flights of stairs is hard enough on my knees that perhaps I am still living hard.

Live today…tomorrow you might not survive. A good day is any day that you’re alive.

Ha! A truer comic has never been drawn. No one under the age of 30 believes in a 50 self. But, unless you’re a statistical anomaly, your 50 self exists. And everything changes, so sayeth us all who have lived to tell the tale.

I buy stick-shift vehicles because I need the exercise. That ‘73 Coronet had a clutch like a leg-press machine! And don’t ask where they hid the starter button on the Studebaker!
