I’ll be listening to a news segment or a song on the computer and Hubby will decide that is the perfect time to tell me something or ask a question. He’s cute, he cooks, and he picks up his clothes – there are women who would fall on their knees to have such a man, so I’m not complaining.
I recently bought a battery operated electric mower, and am very happy with it. It’s quiet, the battery usually lasts for the entire job, but it came with two just in case, and the carburetor never acts up.
Husband is in his mid 60s. While he was working we paid someone to cut the grass as he had to stop doing so as he is allergic and gets ill. Can no longer afford him. Husband now also gets exhausted very easily due to meds he has to take.
Our front yard had very little grass as over 2/3 of it is the semicircular drive we put in decades ago since if we park in the main street we live on the car is damaged. He has now gone and sprayed the sidewalk grass and the semi circle of the driveway with weedkiller so the grass is gone -leaves the small patch between our driveway and one neighbor’s lawn (other side driveway touches property line.
That leaves the back yard. It is cut maybe once a month. This year gas mower would not start. He bought a plug in electric one. (No place to coveniently charge a battery one.) He cuts the grass, while I hold up the extension cord so it does not get in the way. Second time he did it, he could not finish and I got to cut the rest – I managed the cord for me in addition to running the mower. Last year he let me run the gas mower once. We had been cutting the curb grass before he killed it with an electric trimmer and he let me do it once or twice. Earlier this year we were cutting the back yard with trimmer and he let me do it when he was completely exhausted after about 1/4 of the yard and I did the rest. He won’t give in and let me do it all as it is a “male” job, not a “female” one.
After he is done with the mowing (or running the snow blower in winter – which I have also had a chance to do a small bit recently) he comes in the house, has something to drink and has to go to bed as he is so ill.
Compared to this, Olivia has it easy listening to the lawnmower.

And if he didn’t cut the lawn, you’d still complain.

I’d rather hear a lawn mower than my neighbor’s barking dogs!

Consider the eventual reward, that fresh cut lawn smell.
