I watched it raining in the paddy fields outside my gate just yesterday, while it was watery sunlight over our house! To be honest, we’ve had a bit too much precipitation here in Kerala this year!
One time my girlfriend and I had stood for a couple of minutes watching our cat watching water slowly drip out of the kitchen faucet when she remarked “You know what’s even dumber than watching water drip out of a faucet?”. Sometimes self-awareness comes slowly.
I was driving east on Rt 7 last week. Ahead of me, I could see a lot of brake lights. That’s not unusual for this area, but I could also see the traffic light uphill from them was green. “Must be an accident,” my son said. It wasn’t. When we got closer, we began to see wet pavement. Hard rain was falling just in front of the eastbound traffic – as if a curtain had been dropped across the highway if front of them.
The kids on Frazz seem to smart to be fooled by something like this. Plus with that type of sprinkler the water falls as a line one would notice not as a cloud burst over a larger area.
It may not be all that common but it does happen. For me, it was riding my motorcycle north from Montrose, Co when I came to a bit of rain on the road in front of me. It formed a rough circle that I could see the entirety of, maybe a quarter to a half mile in size. Outside the circle was bone dry and inside the circle it was coming down really hard. I stopped to see if it would move along, then rode thru when it didn’t budge. Stopped on the other side to dry off what I could and clean the mud off my glasses so I could see again. When it rains like that around here the rain collects dirt being blown around from the air on the way down.

Nice perspective here. And it’s true, I’ve seen it pour down on one side of the house, while the other remained dry.

I’ve seen it rain in my front yard and be sunny and dry in my backyard.

Either she’s talking very slowly, or that is one speedy sprinkler.

The girl’s in Michigan. Rain can do weird stuff there, it’s not surprising she springs to “weird rain” before she thinks “lawn sprinkler.”

Lake effect snow in Chicago is famous for falling within a certain distance from the lake, and nothing west of that.
