Kate: Well, you got your wish, Danae... it snowed again overnight and the schools are closed today. Danae: Woo... hoo... AARGH! Joe: Saturday mornings should be quiet, Kate... kate: Oh, where's the fun in that?
Danae has never looked so innocent or filled with childlike delight as she appears in panels two and three. But then a quick progression to normality sets in. Delightful setup.
I enjoy the pacing of the stories, some of which are elaborate, multi character and situation stories which span weeks. Yet a return to a different story may be a day away.
There’s always Eddie and the UFOs. Or maybe just a snow day. He remembers our first happy buttons!
I also enjoy that the drama level stays at a Saturday matinee. Even alien abduction is suspensefully funny
Well done Willey. You have the gift to make people happy and smile. Good work sir!
This reminds me of the Shel Silverstein poem “Sick” in his book “Where the Sidewalk Ends.” In it, a child comes up with a litany of reasons for staying in bed until at last someone says it’s Saturday.
Pulled this on my son once-I think the celebration would have been greater if pulled on HIS TEACHERS. (In point of fact, snow rarely if ever closed our schools– they just considered it “winter”.)
Weekends were invented, more or less, by the Israelites, following their God’s command not to work continually, but to take each seventh day off, as a Sabbath holy to the Lord.
Oddly, is it a coincidence that the human person works most efficiently at about 85% of its full capacity?
@freeholder, that’s because Christians (mostly) celebrate the Resurrection, which happened on the First day of the week, or Sunday. It was already being celebrated from about the year 100, as noted in the letters of Ignatius of Antioch and the Didache.
Finding out that it snowed really deep last night, and the schools are closed — only to find out that the schools would have been closed anyway, because it’s Saturday! — is kind of like finding out that you’ve just won a big fat nickle in the Sweepstakes! Whoopee.

@somebodyshort: no, Kate has done stuff like this before. She’s just not constant like Danae – she knows how to carefully pick her spots.

Bwa ha ha. And that is the story at our home today! Snowed last night, no school today….
But here’s a question: Where’s Victoria? I haven’t seen her around for awhile, but I don’t remember anything happening to her.

Big snow the first day of winer vacation. Snow last night. If I were a child I would be questioning a divine power.

Is Kate taking after her Uncle Bob? (Factually correct, but a bit misleading with a side of deviousness.)

Not to point out a certain product, but are there birds sitting on a wire laughing about this in a Windex ad?
