Sadly we do not get to see the moment where Dr. Patterson’s “companions” flip for the right not to share a bed with John. Even back in 1989, some hotels would keep portable beds or have rooms with pull-out couches for these kinds of occasions; however, what fun would that be? Bring on the jokes where the two men are terrified of touching each other while they are sleeping in the same bed.
Reminds me of our stop at a ‘condo’ in Hawaii. We were told ‘we have some bad news and some good news’. It turned out that some owners had come in for the ‘condo’ we had rented(bad news), they upgraded us to another condo(good news). Still not what a traveler wants to hear !

methinks this hotel provides no cots (did John forget to book the hotel, or did one of his companions forget to add him to the list?)

Oh come on! I’ve never seen a hotel where the only bed was a twin (or single). It should at least be a double and I think most have queen beds now.

Ask for one of those fold-away cots they pull out for kids.

You didn’t really think Lynn was going to let John have refreshing break from Elly & the kids, did you? No Way!

I always have a printed copy of the hotel’s confirmation letter when I book in. Obviously someone slipped up.

Good thing he brought the station wagon – he still has his own room

Not to mention, he could get a roll away.

Remove the top mattress, put it on the floor. Two twin beds.

I just stayed in a couple of English and Italian hotels in a single bed as I indicated I was traveling single.

I would always check back when I book a hotel reservation to ensure still valid.
