Donuts? Donuts are for all seasons, Sluggo. I firmly believe that Nancy would back me up on this.

I don’t mind the cold so much. You get used to it. I like snow, too. It makes being outside more fun, especially if you’re a kid. But as an adult that needs to get places, man, winter is just the pits. Just one more thing about growing up that’s a pain in the neck.

I told everyone I would update my experience of wearing a “Sluggo is Lit” tee shirt during my normal Saturday chores. To be honest, nobody commented on it, so it didn’t have the kind of positive effect I was EXPECTING, but just finding Nancy fans in my small New England town was, in retrospect, low expectations compared to what I EXPERIENCED. First, when I went to the local convenience store, I normally buy the “Waste a Buck” scratch ticket, but yesterday I decided to buy a five dollar scratch ticket. Everything else about my Saturday was the same as it has been for the last ten years, so this is experimentation at its purest, folks. The only thing different was the tee shirt. I bought the ticket and WON TWENTY DOLLARS. It had to be the shirt! Then, flush with cash, I bought a breakfast burrito and the one I got was chock-o-block FULL of sausage. What’s the chance of that? There was so much sausage that I had to put a paper towel on my stomach to make sure that I didn’t grease up my LUCKY “Sluggo is lit” shirt. I went to the dump and decided to stop by my local comic book store on the way back to see if there were any Mad Magazines I wanted to buy. While I was there, three very attractive middle aged women came into the store. What is the chance of that?? Three nice looking… and I mean Gilchrist rendered Fritzi Ritz level attractive… women in a small comic book shop? They obviously knew a lot about comics because they were looking for the latest issue of Bitch Planet. When I showed them where it was, they asked me if I wanted to go back to their house and use the HOT TUB!!!!! Knowing that to get into a hot tub I would have to take off my “Sluggo Is Lit” tee shirt, thereby breaking the spell, I told them that I had a date to play bridge at the senior center. They looking genuinely disappointed. Now, you may be wondering why three knowledgable comic book fans wouldn’t comment on my tee shirt. I know, it seems like a “hole” in my story.

All I can figure is that they were embarrassed that they didn’t have one and didn’t want to point out how “cool” I was for fear that I would ghost them and play bridge instead. Last, when I went to buy the copy of Mad Super Special Number 17, IT WAS ON SALE FOR HALF ITS NORMAL PRICE. What a day. All I can do it thank Topatoco. I’m started to wonder what might happen if I wore the enamel pin to work.

I live in the South. I hate Spring – bugs, allergies. I loathe Summer – oppressive heat, drowning humidity. I love Fall – air dries out, temperature cools to a tolerable level. l like Winter – easier to warm up than it it is to cool off, bugs are DEAD!

You know, the “rituals” listed here I believe are really just ways to harvest your crop and store/process it in a way that sustains you for the winter. But, I hadn’t really thought about all the other rituals we have in the fall that don’t have anything to do with harvests. Maybe Sluggo is onto something. Of course, as a Floridian, I don’t really have to worry about this so-called “winter” of which he speaks.

My entire life, winter was my least favorite season. I hate cold weather. I hate snow. I hate ice. Then I moved to Miami, FL and now winter is my favorite part of the year because it means I can turn off the AC and open the windows for a cooling breeze a few times over the season!

When I lived in Upstate NY (been in FL 30 years now) I remember getting so depressed in the Fall, just thinking about Winter coming, that I didn’t truly appreciate the beauty of the Autumn season. Wish I hadn’t done that.

Winter unfortunately began in my part of the planet this weekend, and lasts usually until the middle of April. (sigh)
