Funny because it’s so true. A timeshare I had owned for years installed new faucets where the handle had to be pulled sideways to turn on the water. I called maintenance claiming it didn’t work since like any normal person I assumed it had to be pulled forward. Instead you had to be a 2-year-old trying to break it in order to make it work.
These things must be a maintenance nightmare. As a very prominent engineer once said, “The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drains.”

And when I give up and leave to wash my hands in the 7-11 toilet in the lobby, it laughs at me.

Even in restaurants and relatively upscale bathroom remodels.
Fixtures are “Art.”
Form has ceased to follow function.
Visiting yuppie-ish relatives….
had to ask which part of the new geometric sculpture was movable, and would make water flow from what looked like a shiny, flat bar of solid metal,
which I’d correctly guessed was the tap.

Apparently the out-of-work theremin designers have gone into plumbing. . . .
