Boy, you might think you’re impressing her but that girl is never going out with you.

His flute playing was a hit with the birds, but not the ladies. The story of my life too.

You haven’t got a chance with him, lady. He’s interested in the wrong kind of chick. (Shades of Kids in the Hall’s “Chicken Lady”)

It seems to me that the vine is emanating from his mouth to engulf the little bird, while the bulk of it moves behind him to score the larger, more plentiful birds. Or is that just weird?

Boy with Tin Whistle imitating Bird in Cage

    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Boy_with_a_Tin_Whistle_Imitating_a_Bird_in_a_Cage.jpg

(best viewed by Google Chrome which can automatically translate most pages as necessary) has info and links that point to info about this roughly jumbo envelope size painting.

    https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/100475846/john-st_helier-lander

    http://central.gutenberg.org/articles/John_St_Helier_Lander

both have info about this artist, perhaps in addition to what’s pointed to by the first URL. Most auction websites mistakenly say he was born in 1869; the first artist info URL clarifies that. This is the first work by him used here.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #2035 (September 9, 2018) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment.

If the flutist achieves his goal, the bird won’t be the only one behind bars. She’s twelve.

I want to know why the poor canary is up on that wall. Poor thing can see the life he/she’s missing. They dang well better take it in at night, talk to it, feed and water it, and cover it up nicely.
