My father had some tattoos but I listened to him and never got any. Tattoos are like acne you choose to have.

And she’s gotten a bit saggy over the years, too.

I came THIS close to getting a tattoo during my stint in the Navy back in the 60s, when the only people who had them were sailors and miscreants. After eyeballing all the pokin’, and stabbin’ and scrapin’ tools displayed, I called it off. I am forever grateful for my good judgement.

Almost got a tattoo…then had surgery to remove a piece of metal in the arm(long story but similar to being shot) that was pain enough and now I’ve had a scar to look at since 1991.

Ah, how sweet – still a girl on his arm.Smart not to get a tattoo, especially where some are putting them these days.

I do not like tattoos, and have never gotten one. I look at all the people I see that do have them (often in large numbers), and I just cannot understand the attraction for the things.

My Marine DI told us the story of the 17 yr old sailor who got a tattoo of a naked lady on his chest. When he got out four years later, she was the bearded lady. ;-)

An uncle got several tattoos while in the service in the 50’s. When I was visiting him about 10 years ago (a few months before he passed away), you couldn’t tell what they were of. One I could guess at, but they were mostly blotchy blue-black blobs.

I’m seeing the beginnings of the same thing happening with modern tattoos: fading color and ink bleeding into the surrounding tissue. In 30 years we’re going to see a lot of blotchy blue-black people walking around!

Random fact: My 86yo mom likes to shock people by telling them she has a tattoo – which she does, from accidentally stabbing herself in the hand with an India-ink-filled croquil pen when she was in college. It’s so tiny, you can hardly see it, but she has to keep reminding her dermatologist that no, that black spot is not a melanoma!

Or a blue blob. My dad…he got something on his arm in the service, we never did figure out what it was!
