Mammals look their best shampooed and shiny. Humans and some others doll up to take advantage but most, including dogs, do not. What is the point of a dog looking wow-clean if clean is not natural to him?
We have seen on many occasions (in fact just last week) that the Pattersons let Farley roam freely through the neighborhood most of the time, no matter how messy he gets and no matter what the weather is like. He does his business in the yard, so he has to be let out when they get home.
Given that, where should Elly have placed this note? It needed to be taped to the front of the door. The kids have to know before they open the door not to let Farley out, because that is what both he and the kids are used to.
If this comic strip were to be modernized, Elly would phone the kids and leave them a message telling them not to let Farley out, which they would ignore because she didn’t text.
Wasn’t there a Far Side once, lady dog talking to her boyfriend: Wow! You smell great! What did you roll in? (Was it in the past or coming up where Farley meets a skunk?)
Really, Liz? You found the note and didn’t read? Had you read it, you’ d not open that door. You are a child with no common sense. You grew up still without common sense until you finally did towards the end. Go hide from your mother because Mike will be sure to say you found the note and did not read it.
Actually, I’ve never understood why dogs need to be bathed. In nature, they don’t bathe. They groom themselves with their tongues occasionally. Yes, bathe if the dog is filthy, muddy, etc., but some people just bathe them so they look pretty and smell nice. Why spend that kind of money when it’d be better spent elsewhere. I stopped bathing my dogs and guess what, they really don’t smell. They spend a lot of time outdoors but the yard is clean. They rest on their dog mats outdoors and sleep indoors on nice doggy pillows. Yes, I do groom their nails as that is necessary – only the small one because she is old and does not walk much anymore. The outdoor dogs don’t need their nails groomed because the deck does all the filing for me. My kids go outside and run them with the balls for exercise so they come in pooped and goes to sleep immediately and all night along with all of us. They are all dogs, not glorified human-dogs.

could that have inspired the Baha Men’s greatest hit “Who Let the Dogs Out”?

I used to bathe my dogs in a wash tub out in the back yard. One would go find a dirt spot in a corner, & roll in it immediately upon leaving the tub.

Not informing her team ahead of time was poor leadership. It’s no surprise her project failed.
It won’t be a surprise if she blames/takes it out on everyone else. That is, I say, that is monetary, familial and matrimonial costs notwithstanding.
I hope I’m wrong re the blame. Tune in tomorrow.

It wasn’t the issue that Elly would cause Farley to get dirty. It was her kids, Doofus and Goofus.
