Live forever? I always think of Douglas Adams’ character in the Hitchhiker’s Guide series, Bowerick Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged. Became so bored he gave himself the project of personally insulting everyone in the universe throughout time – in alphabetical order.
Apparently, some scientists think it’s possible to live 300 years or more. The question they never answer is where would the extra years be added? Between, say ages 30 and 45, sure, why not? At the end? No, thanks. Anybody who saw my Mom at 96, bedridden, incontinent, couldn’t feed herself, etc, etc, would never want 200+ more years of that.
Besides, if that had always been true, then George Washington could be alive today. What would he be, the great- great- great- great- etc grandfather of our country? Imagine one person going from candles for light and horses for transport to LED lights and electric cars.
And you’d have to work to the age of 260 or thereabouts so that you afford to retire. How many careers would you have to have?

There’s no time for us
There’s no place for us
What is this thing that fills our dreams
Yet slips away from us
Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever
Who ooo
There’s no chance for us
It’s all decided for us
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us
Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever
Who dares to love forever
Oh oh when love must die
But touch tears, with your lips
Touch my world, with your finger tips
And we can have forever
And we can love forever
Forever is our today
Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever
Forever is our today
Who waits forever anyway

Such a sweet family portrait. Is this a case of looks can be deceiving, or is this who they really are beneath the carnie flim flam?

Perhaps grandma does not want to meet up with ‘Old friends’ on the other side again. Similar to Albert, Deaths servant, in Discworld
