Calvin, next time you wish for snow, make sure the temperature is below freezing.

Hopefully the new storm will be strong enough to cancel school.

Of course, it may knock out the power, leaving you unable to watch TV. And you won’t be able to play outside, leaving you incredibly bored all day.

Now maybe the bus will run off the slippery road and Calvin will miss a day of school.

We feel your pain, Calvin.

I still remember waiting outside a local convenience store for the bus at 4:30 AM in the freezing rain, no shelter for us because the store’s windows didn’t face the bus road.

2.44 metres of snow, Calvin? You wouldn’t be able to get out of the house!

And look at how Watterson presents us with an overhead view of Calvin looking hopefully at the sky in the first panel, and then a final overhead from the opposite angle to emphasize how Calvin’s hopes have been dashed. Brilliant.

It’s snow fair at all..

Could be freezing rain, the worst of both worlds.

I just walked to school, but for grade school that was only about three blocks.

Nine inches of rain in five minutes would probably have a similar effect.

I liked snow days, but only so many, and at certain times. Too many would just have to be made up for by cutting into summer vacation, which I did NOT want to give up. I preferred them anywhere between MLK Day and Spring Break, when the schedule became a real slog.

Aw, the angels are crying because Calvin is sad!

Calvin, how tall are you? If it snows 8 feet in the next five minutes you’ll be burrowing your way home.

A pox on you and your kin! I’d much prefer the significant amount of snow we’ve already received in upstate (Binghamton area) NY was rain. At least I’m not so brain dead as to think that snow in November means climate change is not real. There is a difference between weather and climate.

It is snowing Calvin. Just not where you are. You forgot to request that important detail.

It’s raining in SoCal. No snow. Just rain.

Get enough rain and school will close.

My bus stop was about a 100 yards from the house with no shelter in sight, I’m glad I grew up in West Texas.

Apparently it hasn’t occurred to him that snow days must be made up, & school will be going in June.

It snowed 8 feet that day in all of 5 minutes. We didn’t find the child till the next day frozen and blue with the widest smile you ever did see.
