The house I grew up in depended upon electricity for heat. On the days the radiators were all cold, there was something divine about being able to bathe in the heat our pot-bellied stove put forth. Too bad we couldn’t take it when we moved. Pretty sure the new owners simply junked it.
Yep. We keep the tea warm and the coffee and the cocoa, depending on what we are drinking. AND, it is far enough off of the floor that the kittehs can get underneath. Five cats with synchronized purring is very soothing.
Unfortunately wood stoves and furnaces and fire places do pollute, quite a bit. Our neighbors have one of the slow burning furnaces away from the house with the heat transfer pipe feeding the heat exchanger in the house. When you get the right atmospheric conditions that cause the smoke to hang close to the ground, it can be hard to breath.
Another great thing about wood stoves? Keep a kettle of water on it. It adds moisture to the air and a ready source of hot water for coffee! … er and cocoa… and Cup-A-Soup…yada.

Actually the dad’s head’s looks a little like the tiki stove; he just needs a nose ring. . .
